I own an oil-finish solid cherry wood table. Can I also use wax polish to offer better day-to-day protection?

I have been polishing the table with linseed furniture oil every few months for nearly 2 years. It looks fantastic but you have to treat it with kid gloves. Any spillage can leave a stain if not wiped immediately, which is stopping me using it as much as I’d like and is a nightmare when I have guests for dinner!

Can I now add a wax polish on top of the oil to give a more protective finsh? If so which type? Any other suggestions?

You have to use oil on oil, not wax! Get either lemon oil or almond oil. I prefer the almond oil either gaurdsman or old english. I get these yellow flannel cloths in the automotive section they are awsome for application and buffing as well. Do not pour product directly on the table surface it will not come out even and will look smeary., rather, soak one of the flannel cloths with the oil. apply working with the direction of the wood grain. Take another dry flanel cloth and buff it out in a circular motion. Any liquids that may get spilled will bead up and lay on top of this well oiled surface instead of soaking in. Again, do not use wax as it turns into white spots when it gets wet and you will have to strip the surface to get it off! Oh and don, bother trying to launder the oily cloth , it is now pre-treated for repeated use! Professional cleaner.
